Peek-a-boo views of a historic lighthouse, not to mention daily sightings of a pirate ship, make this house complete magic. A second-floor party deck makes the perfect venue for any number of celebrations, with water views in every direction.

Beamed ceilings, nautical touches and porthole windows make a pirate’s life for up to 16 guests. An eclectic choice of bedrooms ensure everyone gets a space to match their needs and personality. Choose between a lovely master bedroom, and 3 comfortable guest bedrooms. One is particularly suited to children with a cheerful, blue sky wall mural.

Extra inclusions are a corner computer station, and a large kitchen with over-sized island. Wooden butcher block, white cupboards and a white ceramic sink add casual, farmhouse charm to this seaside beauty.

Located on the idyllic-sounding Porpoise Point, Octagon House sits towards the south of pristine Ponte Vedra Island. Best known for its exclusive golfing, it’s a natural paradise as well. This large 4-bedroom, 2,500-square foot home is just 300 yards from the beach, an easy walk of just a minute or two. The beach, a local’s favorite called Vilano Beach, has a gorgeous history dating to the 1920s. It’s a sleepy secret packed with charm.

We rented this property over Labor Day weekend for a reunion of our friends. It worked out very well because of the number of rooms, beds and living space. The property had not been used in a while, but the property manager came right over as soon as we
got there to fix a problem with the water. We loved the location and amenities and would recommend it for large groups. Its not a five star resort, but suits its purpose very well!

An interesting structure in disrepair

I booked the Octagon House on the strength of its appearance in photos, location, and price point. On arrival, we were perplexed to find the majority of light bulbs out, two blown circuits, nonfunctioning air conditioning during a heatwave, a nonfunctioning box fan, and strongly sulfurous tap water as if the property had been shuttered for months. While the property manager was responsive in replacing the bulbs and performing other repairs, our overall impression was that this property needs to reinvent itself before it can compete in this market. Setting aside the maintenance issues we encountered, the furnishings at Octagon House demonstrate a lack of consideration for guest comfort bordering on contempt. The house is brimming with beds, but all of them give every apperance of junkyard acquisitions. The enormous master bed suite ultimately amounts to a dirt-cheap, well-worn futon mattress laying on plywood. My back finally went out after our third night on it. Filthy bedspreads and a roach problem only added insult to injury. Faucets and showers also required deep cleaning after a long life of serving up poorly treated well water. We encourage the owner to either seek guidance on furnishing upgrades or sell this property to someone who might at least make it habitable.
