In addition, St. Augustine is located on Anastasia Island, a barrier island separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. The ICW, as it's called, offers another great source of water for calmer activities, from kayaking and canoeing to snorkeling.Anastasia Island is a wildlife refuge, and Crescent Beach is one of the best-kept secrets in Florida, a beautifully natural, unspoiled piece of coastline with wonderful views and gentle waves. St. Augustine Beach offers St. John County Pier, a pavilion, and areas for fishing as well as swimming and sunbathing.
