Come by land, air - or sea. With both a private pool and boat dock, you’re welcome to arrive as you choose. Why not sail from home to historic St. Augustine’s Barrataria Beach House? A large family home for ten, you’ll appreciate the convenience and independence of two full kitchens. From the front entrance enjoy a gleaming hardwood floor, bright sunlight through glass doors and an inviting beach aesthetic.

A natural kidney-shaped pool with sandstone edging looks more watering-hole-oasis than swimming pool. Its colors blend naturally with the inter-coastal behind, a very tempting site. Palm trees make delightful screening between the pool and homes opposite the waterway. Around the pool awaits a wide seating ledge. Young swimmers will find their confidence here, while older lifeguards have a comfortable perch from which to observe. Come cocktail hour, there’s room enough for everyone.

Inside, the large living room’s lime walls are tangy and fresh. Sliding doors mean sunlight streams in constantly, putting the ceiling fan to perfect use. A fireplace with handsome grate makes this home just as cosy during winter months - perhaps a perfect holiday rental?

Floor cushions are lovely for curling upon near the hearth, or stretching across the large carpet. Where other rentals may lack the space to play, say, Twister - Barrataria House is genuinely huge. Ample reclining armchairs, two couches, plus a generous LCD TV still leave room to spare for impromptu games - charades or even morning yoga.

The home’s pièce de résistance is its wide, wood-planked outdoor deck. White wooden railings wrap around its entirety, while an overhanging portico keeps the outside dining table shady during the heat of the day. Just behind is an in-built office area with handsome white shelving. Stop here to check email or write a few postcards. Wi-Fi and wired Internet are both available. A dining area opens to a sunny kitchen with long breakfast bar. A Pottery Barn esthetic immediately makes it feel like home. A sub-zero fridge/freezer keeps your beer cool and your ice cream colder still. A sloping ceiling invites sea breezes, allowing the house to easily fill with music and laughter.

The master bedroom’s king bed will make royalty of its occupants. Both sides enjoy a large beside table - throw all the vacation reading at it that you can. An en suite master bath awaits, with both choice of tub and walk-in shower. There are his/hers vanities, too! Tucked in the corner of the room is a second small office, great for stashing your phone and other items needing a nightly recharge. With water views from the master bedroom, you may never want to leave. A dream home for a dream vacation.

The first floor is ideal for a second family and features a kitchenette for feeding lots of hungry kids in the morning, or for grabbing a snack and a more private chat. All appliances are available downstairs as well as up. The 1st floor den offers a more casual area for relaxing and has a Direct TV. A comfy cushioned sofa doubles as a sleeper couch for two.

Guest bedrooms include a handsome white a blue room with queen bed and patio doors and a creamy, cottagey bedroom with sleigh bed and patchwork quilt.

Even if you drive to Barrataria Beach House, don’t miss the two private docks. You’ll need fishing poles! Find these in the garage - this is a house that looks after its guests, no matter what they feel like doing.

This property has two boat docks, one on the canal at the back of the property. It is tidal, so an 18 ft boat can go out at any time, but a large boat would have to wait until high tide.

At the front of the property, there is another boat dock in the Matanzas River, that is not tidal and can accomdate large boats. (only one boat is allowed at either dock, so you could stay with up
