Boasting one of the best locations in the historic district, La Casita is a 19th-century home directly behind the event fields; a short walk from the Ancient City Gate. La Casita began construction in the 1880s for railroad workers employed by St. Augustine legend Henry Flagler, founder of Standard Oil and the Florida East Coast Railway.
La Casita Cottage is warm and cozy, perfect for your St. Augustine vacation. It sleeps 4 comfortably: 2 in the double bed in the bedroom, and 2 more on a convertible sofa/air bed in the living room. The house has been beautifully cared for; preserving the original design. It's like stepping into the past… with the addition of central air conditioning, internet service, HDTV; all the conveniences of the 21st century, of course! The photos clearly show the neat and clean appearance of the home, with its beautifully manicured garden. There is something blooming most all year round.
The lovely backyard of La Casita looks directly onto the event fields, which houses four tennis courts, and gives you a front-row seat for so many special occasions in St. Augustine: the Nights of Lights holiday display, music festivals, barbecue cook-offs, and arts-and-crafts fairs.
There is so much available for you in St. Augustine. At La Casita, you're within walking distance of everything in the Old City, from the Castillo de San Marco to the original Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Next to Ripley’s you can mount the cute tour trains that will bring the history of Saint Augustine to you. Also, the nightly Ghost Train is really a lot of fun. One block from Ripley’s is Solano Cycles, where you can rent scooters, bicycles, or the cute little car-like “Scoot Coupe”, as well as strollers and mobility chairs.
Of course, let’s not forget that within 10 minutes by car from the cottage is Velano Beach to the south and St. Augustine Beach to the north. You have four reclining chairs, two beach umbrellas and a small table to use there as well as at the house. Enjoy an afternoon drink on the porches or in the garden under the shade of the old pecan tree. After relaxing you can walk two minutes down toward Ripley’s to a fine seafood restaurant called Barnacle Bills; a mainstay in St Augustine. For original Spanish cuisine, the Columbia Restaurant is located in the middle of the Old City. And there is always fine dining at the Casa Monica, which is next to one of the world’s most extremely interesting museums, the Lightner Museum. It houses the truly incredible collection of Henry Flagler. You need at least a half a day to see it comfortably.
This is only the beginning. Just another three examples: For the golfer in the family, the World Golf Village is just 25 minutes outside Saint Augustine, with its world class courses. And, both local and deep-sea fishing is available year-round. Also locally you will find the San Sebastian Winery, producing their own labels; providing tours and wine tastings!
If you have had a full day and just wish to relax, you are at the right place at La Casita. She always provides guests with the most peace possible. This is the real gem about her. You can just sit, relax, read, and leave the world behind. The kitchen, small and very convenient, is there for you to enjoy. New countertops and cabinets; gleaming white appliances fill this spotlessly clean and bright room. The cupboards provide you with everything you need to prepare and serve a feast! Load up a tray and take it out back for dinner in the garden. Or, if you prefer, order a pizza and people watch!
At La Casita, we provide all the amenities for both beds, as well as the towel sets you'll use in the bathroom, which offers a pedestal sink and freestanding bathtub with shower option. For your use, in the utility shed is a washer, dryer, table and chairs. So pack light and settle right in!
La Casita Cottage has been in the same family for decades, and the love and attention it has received really shows. And all of this is now for you to enjoy!
