Florida Airports - Fort Myers

Fly into Southwest Florida International Airport

If you are planning to visit the Venice area and are looking for an affordable flight, consider flying into Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers. Especially if you are coming from an international country or from a location on the other side of the United States, flying into Ft. Myers may be the most reasonably priced choice. Ft. Myers sits on the southwest Gulf Coast and easily connects to Venice by Interstate 75 and US-41/Tamiami Trail for an easily accessible 70-mile trip. Depending on weather and traffic conditions, the drive from Ft. Myers to Venice should take between 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Just south of downtown Ft. Myers, supporting more than 5million people from the continental U.S. and up to four continents, passing through approximately 25 different airlines, Ft. Myers ranks within the busiest 60 airports in the nation, even with its limited size.  Currently, the Southwest Florida International Airport is in the midst of an expansion project to add on the Midfield terminal to help sustain the continually increasing needs of worldwide travelers.

With only two terminals, A and B, with the Midfield terminal in progress, you will most likely fly into A from the United States and B for an international flight. Baggage claim is located on the first level and is neatly divided into terminal areas. On this level you will also find a wide variety of shuttle services to take you to rental car services available for your drive to Venice. Some of the major names include Alamo, Avis, Atlas, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, National and Thrifty. There are a variety of other Florida based rental car companies as well. Keep in mind when you are returning to the Ft. Myers airport that all rental cars are located off site and patrons will be bused from the car rental station in the terminal to the offsite car rental location. Because of this you will need extra time when returning the car and checking in.

Other public transportation options to Venice include a Greyhound bus terminal located in downtown Ft. Myers. To get to the Greyhound bus terminal, you would need to take the Lee Tran, which runs up and down US-41 between 6am-10pm. Call the Greyhound station in advance for times and registration at 800-454-2487 or call the Ft. Myers Greyhound station directly at 239-334-1011. The baggage claim area also houses a variety of other limousine services and cabs, and taxis run to Venice but the cab fees are estimated at $120 for the 70-mile trip.

If you are renting a car and driving to Venice, you will first get onto Paul Doherty Pkwy and quickly turn left onto Daniels Pkwy and merge onto Interstate 75. Take 75 approximately 60 miles to exit 193, which will end up right in Venice.  You also have the option to stay on the I-75 to exit 200/SR-681 if you are staying north of Venice in Nokomis. From here take US-41/Tamiami Trail South to Venice. This will lead you first by Nokomis and then right into the heart of Venice.
